Harmony Townhomes is a thoughtfully refined multi-residential development in Rocky View, AB. Over the past year and a half the project underwent multiple redesigns to both the unit plans and overall site configuration, allowing the team and client to fully test feasibility, livability, and long-term value before moving forward.
Originally planned with mixed unit types and 50 homes on site, the final design intentionally reduces density to 42 units across nine buildings. This shift reflects the priority of quality unit design over maximum yield. Earlier concepts included a slimmer single-car garage model but after exploring various site configurations the decision was made to invest fully in the large unit type to elevate functionality, comfort, and overall market appeal.
Early designs featured a dropped landing, but on a flat site this required creating an artificial grade change to achieve the intended effect. When combined with building code requirements, the added complexity outweighed the design benefit. The entry was ultimately redesigned to be flush, simplifying construction while maintaining a strong, welcoming arrival experience. At the main level, the entry level is designed as an entertaining space with a flexible parlour or reception-style room with the opportunity to incorporate a wet bar. The layout remains adaptable, however, and can easily convert to a fourth bedroom with minor modifications, preserving flexibility for homeowners.
The site itself is flat and straightforward, allowing the architecture and landscape strategy to define character without much challenge.
Drawing inspiration from the winter prairies, the material selection leans into tones of beige, brown, and white, creating a soft, neutral composition that feels both contemporary and grounded. The overall atmosphere evokes a subtle “prairie coastal” sensibility: warm, minimal, and timeless.
