Brentwood Phase 2 brings two additional multi-residential buildings for Brentwood Homes in the Woodcroft community of northwest Edmonton. It was designed within the guidelines of the Brentwood Master Plan Gravity prepared for Brentwood. This master plan has been divided into eight phases, starting from the northwest corner of the site and progressing eastward, with the final phase on the northeast corner.
Phase 2 adds 160 units with W1 building consisting of 77 units and 83 units with building W3. This phase provides apartments ranging from 700 to 1,200 square feet, with both 2- and 3-bedroom size configurations. Many units will include balconies, but where private amenity isn't provided, occupants will have access to the generous new landscaping, public amenity, and parkland provided by the Master Plan. Together with Phase 1, the Brentwood Master Plan officially has 3 buildings now in motion.
The exterior of Phase 2's five-storey multi-residential buildings will incorporate wood-like planks, charcoal brick veneer, charcoal cementitious plank, and dark grey asphalt shingles, creating a modern and cohesive aesthetic that utilizies contracting colours. The cladding and massing are articulated to create a visually dynamic facade that highlights exterior elements such as entrance canopies and balconies. The recessed volumes announce the main pedestrian access to the buildings, utilizing the architecture and landscaping to provide a prominent entrance condition.
The landscape design aims to generate community connections on site, with tree-lined paths linking neighbours residing in other buildings to one another. Communal outdoor amenity spaces have been optimized for sun exposure and promote social gathering, while maintaining general adherence to the redevelopment master plan.
The development permit for Phase 2 has been submitted to the City of Edmonton.
