Killarney 8 + 8

The Killarney 8 + 8 Rowhouse project presents a unique densification solution for missing middle housing in Calgary. Situated on 37th Street Southwest, the development maximizes density on a modest site with two 4-unit rowhouses, each featuring secondary suites for a total of 16 dwellings. These units are connected by a shared courtyard and supported by at-grade parking.

Architecturally, this rowhouse project draws inspirations from industrial and warehouse typologies, expressed through a strong peaked roofline, large loft-like windows, and metal cladding. The result is a modern-industrial infill project that explores a bold approach to missing-middle housing.

The courtyard not only provides entrances for the single level at-grade units, but also added amenity space for all occupants. The landscaping was a priority for these spaces as it was important to have a balance between exposure and privacy for residents. The single-level, at-grade units feature an open floor plan with one bedroom and one bathroom. The upper two-storey units offer open living and dining spaces, a street-facing balcony, and a double-master layout with a second balcony overlooking the rear of the building. Together this mix of unit types adds variety and appeal to the housing market.
