Glendale 9

Glendale 9 is a small apartment building situated in Calgary’s southwest neighbourhood of Glendale. It features nine homes within three storeys, and fronts onto 37 ST SW. At the rear, surface parking is accessed from the lane. Because it is located in close proximity to the 17th Avenue main street, Westbrook shopping area, and Westbrook C-Train station, residents won’t necessarily have to rely on a vehicle.

These nine homes range from one to two bedrooms with square footage from 600–850 ft2 per home. Special design considerations were given to the shared corridor spaces, to ensure the most efficient layouts possible for the units. This parcel’s slope influenced the positioning of the budding, with what might have been basement units facing 37th Street having full height windows and direct exterior access. The building’s entryway is a half-flight up minimizing the amount of internal circulation space required for stairwells.

This project is wood-framed, and clad with Hardie lap siding and panels, as well as MAC metal finish wood-tone siding, and flat metal panel. A total of 8 surface parking stalls are provided for resident and guest parking, in the gravel lane situated at the rear of the parcel. In addition to the vehicle parking, the development also has an interior bicycle storage room for its residents.
